I work with so many women who are living their lives with chronic migraine. And the thing that comes a very close second to the excruciating pain and sickness that arrives with migraine is…..ANXIETY.

There is so often a low-grade (or possibly high-grade) anxiety bubbling under the surface, because you don’t know when the attack is going to happen. Is it going to happen the day you have that important interview or meeting at work or at your best friend’s wedding? The not knowing and waiting is sometimes worse than the actual event…..at least when it finally hits, you know the process, you know what to do, even though the pain is overwhelming and you’re in a dark room for days.

This is one of the main issues that the women who come to my clinic speak about in their free consultation. After they have explained how migraines feels for them and what their possible triggers are, I would estimate 95% of these women live in an almost constant state of anxiety waiting for the next attack. And so their tops two goals of coming to my clinic are:

  1. Reduce or stop the frequency of their migraines and…
  2. Reduce or eliminate the anxiety that comes with that.

As you know, anxiety takes a big toll on our bodies and our lives. If we are in state of anxiety, then cortisol is being released from our adrenals as part of us being in “flight or flight”, our neuroendocrine system doesn’t know the difference between the threat of a huge tiger looking at us hungrily or the worry of a future event. And this constant stream of stress hormones affects all other systems in the body, from digestion, to appetite, to how the liver is able to process hormones. It can affect the quality of sleep, which in itself can trigger a migraine attack….we NEED to sleep so that our bodies can heal and rejuvenate. It can affect thinking, cause fogginess and lack of concentration.

And I have seen all too often that this has actually created a vicious cycle….the migraines are creating anxiety and the anxiety is creating and increasing the frequency of your migraines. And because of that you might be missing more work, missing social and family events, having to increase your medications or having to consider the possibility of painful injections to try to reduce the frequency of the migraines happening. You are most likely at your wits end, feeling so tired and worn out from the attacks, coupled with the growing anxiety.

But, there is light at the end of tunnel….there is hope. With the process and methods I offer, I have worked with so many women who now cannot even remember how it felt to be constantly anxious, and whose migraine frequency has reduced dramatically and even in some completely stopped. Their lives have been transformed. There is a sparkle in their eyes that just wasn’t there before. They are more productive at work, more social (they are actually able to say yes to all the weddings and parties), they are able to plan holidays without fear of having to stay holed up in a hotel room.

They look back on when they first came to my clinic, and they cannot believe that they are the same person. We worked together through the individual treatment plan I created for them and from following this and implementing some simple adjustments to their lives, they are now reaping the results and living a life that is enjoyable, inspiring and most importantly pain-free (physically and emotionally)!
